My Take On….FREE AGENTS

Sometimes, when I’m watching a show – a new show, a returning show, a special episode that everyone watches of something they normally wouldn’t, I feel like I’ve been given the “B-side.”   On that B-side, I’m always given a different version of the show – people love 2 BROKE GIRLS; I don’t (that’s a story for another day).  Everyone raved about HUGE; I hated it.  I’m always watching something a little different.  That happened again for me with FREE AGENTS – the US version of a series about a grown man, divorced with children, who falls into bed with his best work friend, and hilarity ensues.

The show was a stand out for me in an otherwise bleak season of new comedy, and I think I’m one of the only people willing to say that (or I saw a different pilot than everyone else did…).  Compared to the show it’s airing with tonight (UP ALL NIGHT…more on that later today), it just felt more complete.  We meet Alex and Helen (Hank Azaria and Kathryn Hahn) right after they’ve slept together for the first time, only to follow their friendship as it gets out of the bedroom and into the board room (are people using that?  Did I make that up?  Is that terribly cliche?).  Azaria is always a hit for me, and after seeing OUR IDIOT BROTHER this past weekend (at a Movie Tavern where you order food DURING your movie), Kathryn Hahn is climbing the ranks as one of my favorite funny people.

The show was fast and fun, and a nice half hour of time, spent with some of my favorite people (among them, Anthony Stewart Head, being absurd).  Maybe I related to the show because it felt like their conversations were conversations we’d have at the office and the combination of Jon Enbom and Todd Holland makes me WANT to love it more than others.  At any rate, the show rates fairly high on my fall TV list, and I think you should give it a go.
