ABC Family picks up 2 dramas

ABC Family is sticking with what continues to work for them – Paul Lee announced yesterday that the network would be giving 10-episode orders to two new series – HUGE and PRETTY LITTLE LIARS.  Both shows are expected to premiere in 2010!

HUGE is based on author Sasha Paley’s book of the same name; it follows the lives of six teens and the staff at a weight-loss camp, as they look beneath the surface to discover their true selves and the truth about each other.  Most importantly, the show is being developed by Winnie Holzman (MY SO CALLED LIFE) and her daughter Savannah Dooley!  No stars have been named yet, but we’ll let you know when we hear who is in!

PRETTY LITTLE LIARS follows four estranged best friends who are reunited one year after their best friend and queen bee of the group, Alison, goes missing – only to discover they are receiving messages from an anonymous “A” who knows all their secrets.   The show stars the adorable Lucy Hale (PRIVILEGED) as Aria, Troian Bellisario (NAVY NCIS) as Spencer, Ashley Benson (EASTWICK) as Hanna and Shay Mitchell as Emily. Also starring are Laura Leighton (MELROSE PLACE) and Nia Peeples (THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS). Additionally, Bianca Lawson (BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER) has been cast in a recurring role as Maya.

So what say you, ABC family fans?  Sound like good fits for your network?

OK, very very excited to here of a show being developed by Winnie Holzman – MSCL was my first ever TV love as a 15 year old girl, and I cannot wait to rejoice in Winnie’s work again.

Have you seen/read the Pretty Little Liars pilot (or books)? Or are these just assumptions you’re making? The fact that A is meant to be Alison is no mystery and there are a few more twists in the first hour. Give the creative teams a little credit, and maybe do some research.

  • I certainly wasn’t saying I wouldn’t watch the show, just based on the description from the network, there wasn’t much mystery to who the A was. The cast looks great, and I will definitely be checking it out!
