My Take On…ENLISTED on FOX

ENL-PAS-R7-03DJ3Tonight on FOX (9:30/8:30c), be sure to check out ENLISTED, their latest single-camera comedy starring Geoff Stults, Chris Lowell, and Parker Young.  Stults is hot-shot soldier Pete Hill, whose mistake overseas sends him back to the Florida army base where his two brothers (Lowell and Young) are stationed.  The brothers Hill are all a part of the Rear Detachment (Read D) unit that mows lawns and rescues dogs while other soldiers are deployed, and Pete’s return puts him in charge of their rag tag bunch of misfits.

I was a little wary of the show when I first watched the pilot – Pete was too “older brother and cooler than everyone,” Derrick (Lowell) was almost too “over it all,” and Randy (Young) was too “excited about everything that ever happened ever.”  But watching again, I sat back and really enjoyed the relationships that are established in the first episode and really fell in love.  As “cooler than everyone” as Pete is, he cares for his friends and his brothers; as “over it” as Derrick is, he really feels the same, and Randy has a right to be excited – he makes things fun by being excited about them.  By the end of the fourth episode, I couldn’t wait to watch again, and see what everyone else thought of what has become my new favorite comedy of the year.  I couldn’t help but fall in love with their family, and the family of misfits that they are a part of on the base.  They have a great relationship with their boss (Keith David) and I found myself rooting for them, no matter what they were doing.

In short, take some time to sample ENLISTED, and don’t let the Friday night time slot scare you away – it’s a great show buried on a not so great night, and it would be a shame for you to miss out!
