CourtneyK is bidding a not-so-fond farewell to RAVENSWOOD

MERRITT PATTERSON, TYLER BLACKBURN, BRITNE OLDFORD, BRETT DIERRAVENSWOOD: I tried…

I’m a full-on PRETTY LITTLE LIARS fan, it’s no secret. The spin-off RAVENSWOOD has had 3 episodes and….I’m out.

I wanted to like it. I thought it had potential, but in the end, I just can’t.

For a split second, I was on board. I enjoy Tyler Blackburn’s Caleb (originated on PLL), he’s quippy and I dig it. But his “rescue/run outside before thinking” and “wandering off alone” traits are getting old.

As far as the rest of the town, I’m done. I can’t take any more of the Sad Sack Twins, the Hot Nerd Girl and the Loner Ghost girl. In three episodes, there hasn’t been any real character development, and there should be by now! I should be caring about all of them, and I don’t. So far, we’ve got a historical curse that means nothing until the last 30 seconds of the 3rd episode, and even then? We got nothing tangible to relate to!

They try so hard too. The sad, sweeping music or the spooky, sweeping music…I gotta hand it to the editing department, they really have been trying hard! It’s just not enough for me.

So yeah, sorry. I’m done. I’ll wait for January when PRETTY LITTLE LIARS comes back and our series wandering Caleb (hopefully) is back where he belongs, chasing down a physical bad guy “A” and not finding himself caught up in a mystical but severely lackluster storyline.

I don’t know what the numbers are saying, but I can’t really see RAVENSWOOD making it past this one season, even with the frothing PLL fan base. It’s just…boring.

I get what you’re saying, I really do. I am choosing to continue watching for the ghost story. I love ghost stories and thrillers without blood and gore. My fright tolerance level is really low – I mean really low, so I’m sure what scares me doesn’t scare 90% of the population. So I like watching this show from between my fingers.

But I am increasingly annoyed at the connection to PLL. It doesn’t fit at all and really makes no sense. I hope at this point that if the show continues to another season, they will break Caleb completely away from Rosewood and end the PLL connection completely.

All that being said, I agree that these characters are not relatable. I hope that is just your typical first-season stuff so I’ll keep watching to see how things go.

Liz, I hope so too. Even though I’m not watching anymore. If they can get past the faults and give us some better content, I’ll choke down this season and start up again. 🙂
