Quick Take: THE MENTALIST Season 6 Premiere

103556_d1217bThere is just something about THE MENTALIST that keeps me coming back.  A show that I watch off and on, and marathon some weeks while missing it others – I keep going back because I’m still caught up in the Red John of it all.  Season 6 picks up tonight at 10/9c on CBS with another great episode.  Jane has narrowed his list of Red John suspects to a list of 7 (my money is on Reed Diamond because I feel like he is incapable of playing a good guy), and while dealing with a murder out of town (that brings Cindy Lubbock aka Jamie Luner to the show in a guest spot), Jane and Theresa (who is in on the list) continue working to figure out who is the baddest of the bad.  They get to interact with a handful of RJ suspects along the way, and there’s a lot of humor to be found in how delicately they approach every situation, knowing they could be talking to a sociopathic serial killer.

Jane (Simon Baker) is still charming and adorable, and just wonderful, while focusing more intensely than ever on his life’s mission of tracking down RJ.  His relationship with Lisbon seems strained yet stronger than ever (it’s hard to explain), and the team of Cho, Rigsby, and Van Pelt (sign, LOVE Wayne and Grace together), is as supportive and awesome as ever.  Six seasons in, through a mix of police work, mystery solving, and jokes (and with a twist ending to Ep1 that I didn’t see coming), the show shows no sign of letting up on the entertainment; I’m in it for the long haul!
