That gets me thinking…

At any give time, on any given day, there are 600 thoughts running through my mind.  Those rhetorical questions that I think to myself, wondering what I would do in certain situations.

In my inaugural “That gets me thinking…”, I wanted to chat with you all for a minute about some questions that I’ve brought up to myself since the opening ceremonies of the Olympics…

The Chinese decided that the 7-year-old who sang the beautiful opening number was too unattractive to perform it herself at the Opening Ceremonies, so they got someone deemed “attractive.”  That gets me thinking – why did they need to have her appear on stage at all?  Why break that little girls heart into 2008 pieces upon learning that she just didn’t have the good genes to perform in front of a billion people?  They could have hidden her under one of those boxes that formed the drops of water…

Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte are the very best of friends.  They’ve trained together, they’ve raced together, and they’ve gone back and forth in fastest times on the 200IM together.  That gets me thinking – In Phelps’ quest for 8 Olympic gold medals in one games, where Lochte and Laszlo Czeh of Hungary are the only two real competitors, would Lochte let his best friend take the win?  Or would he fight it out till the end and feel bad if he singlehandedly ruined the dreams of someone he loves? The Chinese gymnasts from the Women’s team are all 15 or 16 (and 1 20 year old, which, okay, I’ll buy that), according to their Chinese government issued passports.  That gets me thinking – What would be the advantage to having younger athletes participate?  Some say that it’s because when they’re younger, they don’t realize the magnitude of the events in which they’re participating, but it just makes me think that they’ll do anything for the win…

I’ve never even heard of synchronized diving before and I am completely hooked.  That gets me thinking – Would I be hooked on any synchronized event?  I mean, I love Synchronized Swimming.  It’s pure insanity.  What about Synchronized Uneven Parallel Bars or Synchronized Vaulting?  That would be sick! There are 100,000 condoms being handed out at this year’s olympic games to the Athletes in the Athletes’ Village.  That gets me thinking – When do they have the time to go through all of those condoms?

I’m just about worn out with the Olympics and we’re not even a full week in.  That gets me thinking – Will I still care about the games next week when the Swimming and Gymnastics are over?  What will get me through?

What gets you thinking?
