NBC has announced their new fall schedule.

Pilots/Shows given series orders (some sight unseen):

  • WILL & GRACE – though technically not a new pilot, this reboot of the Emmy-winning series is guaranteed for 10 new episodes in the new season.  The foursome is back, and I’m sure it will continue to be incredible.
  • RISE – Jason Katims drama about a high school drama teacher (Josh Radnor) who inspires the whole town when he gains confidence through teaching drama. MOANA’s Auli’i Cravalho, Rosie Perez, and Marley Shelton star, as well! Inspired by the story of groundbreaking high school drama teacher Lou Volpe as chronicled in the book Drama High
  • THE BRAVE (fka FOR GOD & COUNTRY) – Military drama – officially “While D.I.A. Deputy Director Patricia Campbell (Anne Heche) and her team of analysts wield the world’s most advanced surveillance technology from Washington, D.C., Adam Dalton (Mike Vogel) and his heroic Special Ops squad of highly trained undercover specialists use their unbreakable bond and commitment to freedom to save lives of innocent people and execute missions in some of the most dangerous places in the world.”
  • AP BIO – In a move that sucks for IASIP fans, because THE MICK is killing it, and this looks amazing, NBC has picked up Glenn Howerton’s comedy from Lorne Michaels and Seth Meyers – AP BIO follows a philosophical scholar who loses his dream job and becomes an AP Biology teacher. Patton Oswalt stars, too.
  • GOOD GIRLS – Mae Whitman and Retta (!!) star in this one that’s about three women who need money and rob a supermarket with a toy gun. “But when the manager catches a glimpse of one of them and the loot is far more than they expected it doesn’t take long for the three best friends to realize the perfect getaway will be harder than they think.”
  • REVERIE – Sarah Shahi is Mara Kint, used to be a hostage negotiator dealing with a personal tragedy.  She is brought into a world of virtual reality to help people who have lost their way.  Cast looks great – Dennis Haybsert, Sendhil Ramamurthy, Jessica Lu, and Kathryn Morris (missed her since COLD CASE).
  • CHAMPIONS – Anders Holm is Vince; Andy Favreau is Matthew. Official synopsis: “their simple life of women and working out is put on hold when the teenage son (J.J. Totah) of Vince is dropped off on their doorstep by Priya (guest star Mindy Kaling), one of his old high school flings.”
  • LAW & ORDER TRUE CRIME: THE MENENDEZ MURDERS – behind the scenes scripted look at the case revolving around the murders of the Menedezes by their sons.  Edie Falco stars.

  • THE ORVILLE – Seth MacFarlane created / stars with Adrianne Palicki – live action dramedy set centuries in the future on a spaceship.
  • THE GIFTED (first look, full trailer) – Family adventure series THE GIFTED, from 20th Century Fox Television in association with Marvel Television, tells the story of a suburban couple whose ordinary lives are rocked by the sudden discovery that their children possess mutant powers. Forced to go on the run from a hostile government, the family joins up with an underground network of mutants and must fight to survive.  Written by Matt Nix (APB, “Burn Notice”), directed by Bryan Singer (the “X-Men” franchise”) and executive-produced by Nix, Singer, Lauren Shuler Donner (“X-Men: Apocalypse,” “X-Men: Days of Future Past,” “The Wolverine”), Simon Kinberg (“X-Men: Apocalypse,” “X-Men: Days of Future Past”), Jeph Loeb (“Marvel’s Daredevil,” “Marvel’s Jessica Jones”) and Jim Chory (“Marvel’s Daredevil,” “Marvel’s Jessica Jones”), the series stars Stephen Moyer (SHOTS FIRED), Amy Acker (“Person of Interest”), Sean Teale (“Reign”), Jamie Chung (GOTHAM), Coby Bell (“Burn Notice”), Emma Dumont (“Aquarius”), Blair Redford (“Satisfaction”), Natalie Alyn Lind (GOTHAM) and Percy Hynes White (“Night at the Museum 3”).
  • GHOSTED – Adam Scott and Craig Robinson star in this one – as a paranormal believer and skeptic, respectively – as they get recruited by a government agency to look into weird stuff happening in LA.  Ally Walker and Adeel Akhtar also star.
  • LA TO VEGAS – ensemble workplace comedy about an airline crew and passengers who, every weekend, take the flight from Burbank to Vegas to try and win big. Dylan McDermott stars, with Ed Weeks, Peter Stormare, Nathan Lee Graham, Kim Matula, and Olivia Macklin.  The infamous (to HAPPY ENDINGS fans) Lon Zimmet wrote the pilot.
  • THE RESIDENT – Emily VanCamp and Matt Czuchry (!!!) are coming back to TV. The show centers on Devon Pravesh (Manish Dayal), an idealistic young doctor who begins his first day under the supervision of a tough, brilliant senior resident, Conrad Hawkins (Czuchry), who pulls the curtain back on all of the good and evil in modern day medicine. Lives may be saved or lost, but expectations will always be shattered. VanCamp plays Nic, an attractive nurse who also happens to the on-again-off-again romantic fling of Czuchry’s Conrad. Bruce Greenwood and Shaunette Wilson round out the cast!

  • TEN DAYS IN THE VALLEY – (straight to series) Kyra Sedgwick stars as TV producer Jane Sadler, whose young daughter goes missing, mirroring the cop drama she produces; Malcolm Jamal Warner will co-star as Matt, the head writer on Jane’s TV show. Erika Christensen is playing Jane’s psychologist sister.
  • MARVEL’S INHUMANS – (straight to series) Anson Mount, Ken Leung, Serinda Swan, great cast – straight to series order for the latest Marvel series about more Marvel commodities.
  • AMERICAN IDOL – if the contracts get signed, sounds like ABC is announcing a big push for AMERICAN IDOL, two years after it was canceled. I think Kelly Clarkson would be a great addition!
  • THE GOOD DOCTOR – comes from David Shore and Daniel Dae Kim!  Freddie Highmore stars as Shaun Murphy, a doctor who has autism. He struggles with social interaction, but has an “engaging honesty and directness.” Also stars Richard Schiff!
  • THE GOSPEL OF KEVIN – brings Jason Ritter and JoAnna Garcia Swisher back to TV.  Ritter is Kevin – down on his luck, he’s visited by a celestial being and given a mission to save the world.  JGS is his sister.
  • THE MAYOR – Brandon Michael Hall stars a young rapper who ends up mayor of his town in a publicity stunt gone wrong.  Yvette Nicole Brown and Lea Michele co-star.
  • THE CROSSING – Steve Zahn (love love love) and Natalie Martinez star – time travel is involved.  Basically, American war refugees from the future come back to America of the present time to seek asylum.
  • FOR THE PEOPLE – Shondaland’s latest – Britne Olford and Lyndon Smith are  young lawyers with busy personal lives who handle federal cases.
  • ALEX, INC. (fka Untitled Zach Braff Comedy (fka START-UP)) – ZB is a working husband and father who quits his job to launch a start-up.  Tiya Sircar (“good” Eleanor from THE GOOD PLACE) and Michael Imperioli co-star.
  • DECEPTION – FBI drama where an ex-magician uses his skills to help solve cases. This one comes from Chris Fedak, so I’m DEFINITELY in!
  • SPLITTING UP TOGETHER – Jenna Fischer and Oliver Hudson star in this comedy from Emily Kapnek about a couple whose relationship improves when they get divorced. Bobby Lee and Diane Farr also star.
  • ROSEANNE – Coming at midseason, a reboot of the old series, with likely the whole gang returning!!!!!
  • Untitled GREY’S ANATOMY firefighter spin-off – this one’s been ordered straight to series and will be a planted pilot in an upcoming GA episode.  Following the personal and professional lives of Seattle firefighters.

 


CBS has announced their new fall schedule.

  • YOUNG SHELDON – series centers around young Sheldon Cooper from THE BIG BANG THEORY – Jim Parsons will narrate, Iain Armitage (BIG LITTLE LIES) will play young Sheldon, and Zoe Perry (daughter to Laurie Metcalf and Jeff Perry) will play mom (Metcalf plays mom to adult Sheldon).  LOVE that bit of casting!
  • SEAL TEAM – David Boreanaz (who replaced Jim Caviezel) leads this one – about Navy SEALs as they train, plan and execute dangerous, high-stakes missions.  Max Theriot, AJ Buckley, and Jessica Pare co-star.
  • INSTINCT – ALAN CUMMING!!!!  Officially: “A former CIA operative who has since built a “normal” life as a gifted professor and writer is lured back into his old life when the NYPD needs his help to stop a serial killer. Based on the soon-to-be-published James Patterson book.”  Naveen Andrews and Khandi Alexander also star!
  • S.W.A.T. – Based on the movie or loosely related to the movie of the same name.  Shemar Moore stars.  Officially “A locally born and bred S.W.A.T. sergeant is torn between loyalty to the streets and duty to his fellow officers when he’s tasked to run a specialized tactical unit that is the last stop in law enforcement in Los Angeles.”  More importantly?  JAY HARRINGTON!! Ahem…
  • WISDOM OF THE CROWD – Officially: “Inspired by the notion that a million minds are better than one, a visionary tech innovator (Jeremy Piven) creates a cutting-edge crowdsourcing app to solve his daughter’s murder, and revolutionize crime solving in the process. Based on the Israeli format of the same name.”
  • 9JKL – Family comedy from Mark Feuerstein about a real part of his life – logline “A family comedy inspired by a time in Mark Feuerstein’s adult life when he lived in apartment 9K in the building he grew up in, sandwiched between his doting parents’ apartment, 9J, and his brother, sister-in-law and their baby’s apartment, 9L, and his attempts to set boundaries with his intrusive but well-meaning family.”
  • ME, MYSELF, & I – Logline: “A single-camera comedy examining one man’s life over a 50-year span. The show will focus on three distinct periods in his life – as a 14-year-old in 1991, a 40-year-old in present day, and a 65-year-old in 2042.”  Bobby Moynihan is the lead, and JALEEL WHITE is in it!! 
  • BY THE BOOK – Jay R Ferguson and David Krumholz star in this one based on a book by AJ Jacobs about a modern man trying live daily live by The Bible. Ian Gomez, Camryn Manheim, Lindsay Kraft, and Tony Rock star.

Officially renewed: THE 100 (without Isaiah Washington…oh well), ARROW, CRAZY EX-GIRLFRIEND, THE FLASH, IZOMBIE, JANE THE VIRGIN, LEGENDS OF TOMORROW, THE ORIGINALS, RIVERDALE, SUPERGIRL, SUPERNATURAL, WHOSE LINE IS IT ANYWAY?

  • VALOR – Matt Barr (is he the new Ted McGinley/showkiller?) and Christina Ochoa star as elite helicopter pilots who “uncover a twisted secret about a botched mission to Somalia that left American servicemen in enemy hands.” Charlie Barnett, W. Trè Davis, Corbin Reid, Nigel Thatch, and Melissa Roxburgh also star.
  • DYNASTY (2.0) – From Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, and Sallie Patrick – “racially diverse, modernized reboot of the classic ’80s soap ‘that follows two of America’s wealthiest families, the Carringtons and the Colbys, as they feud for control over their fortune and their children,’ as told ‘primarily through the perspectives of two women at odds: Blake’s (Grant Show) daughter Fallon Carrington (Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll‘s Elizabeth Gillies) and her soon-to-be stepmother, Cristal (Vampire Diaries‘ Nathalie Kelley), a Hispanic woman marrying into this WASP family and America’s most powerful class.'” The show is expected to show the “dark underbelly of the 1 percent, a corrupt world built on backroom deals, betrayal, and, in some cases, murder.” Alan Dale (!!), James Mackay, Sam Adegoke, Robert Christopher Riley, and Rafael de la Fuente also star.  IMPORTANT – original creators Esther and Richard Shapiro are serving as EPs.
  • BLACK LIGHTNING – another DC superhero show is heading to the CW. Stars Cress Williams as the titular hero.  From the Berlanti verse – I’m more into this one than others based solely on the involvement of Mara Brock Akil and Salim Akil – LOVE them.
  • LIFE SENTENCE – Lucy Hale stars as a woman who is told she’s dying of cancer, so she ventures out on a “live life you’re dying” tour only to then be told she’s been misdiagnosed and has to deal with the fallout. Dylan Walsh and Gillian Vigman costar among others
