Cheryl’s Take: What I’m watching on ABC this season!

Let’s be honest. I’m more a fan of drama than comedy. That being said, it’s time I checked to see what the networks have planned for us, the unsuspecting viewers, for the upcoming 2017-18 season. I want to look at some of these shows in a short series of articles.

Here’s a quick peek at new dramas ABC has lined up.

“The Crossing” follows refugees from America arriving in a small town seeking asylum from a war that has yet to happen. The series promises all kinds of problems between newcomers and local townspeople whose lives are completely disrupted. Series stars are Steve Zahn, Natalie Martinez, Sandrine Holt, Rick Gomer, Jay Karnes, Marcuis Harris, Simone Kessel, Kelly Missal, Rob Campbell, Grant Harvey, Bailey Skodje, Jon D’Leo, Luc Roderique, and Tommy Bastow.

In “Deception,” a magician’s career is ruined by scandal, but he finds a new place to use his magic acts helping the FBI catch the most “uncatchable.” Series stars are Jack Cutmore-Scott, Llfenesh Hadera, Lenora Crichlow, Amaury Nolasco, Justin Chon, Laila Robins, and Vinnie Jones.

From Shondaland (“Grey’s Anatomy”) comes “For the People,” a drama where new lawyers for the prosecution as well as the defense fight out high-profile federal cases in a New York courtroom. Series stars are Ben Rappaport, Susannah Flood, Wesam Keesh, Rege-Jean Page, Ben Shenkman, Hope Davis, Vondie Curtis-Hall, and Anna Deavere Smith.

From “Lost” and “Hawaii Five-0’s” Daniel Dae Kim comes “The Good Doctor,” (Mondays at 10/9c) a series about a young doctor using medical conditions of autism and savant syndrome to save lives in a large, prestigious hospital. Interesting premise. Added to the premise fascination is that the series stars Freddie Highmore (“Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” “Neverland”). Other regulars are Antonia Thomas, Nicholas Gonzalez, Chuku Modu, Beau Garrett, Hill Harper (CNN), and Richard Schiff.

And Marvel’s “Inhumans” comic book series comes to life in a new series for ABC that stars Anson Mount, Iwan Rheon, Serinda Swan, Eme Ikwuakor, Isabelle Cornish, Ken Leung, Ellen Woglom, Sonya, Balmores, and Mike Moh.

Keep on the lookout for airdates of these new dramas on ABC.
