Name of the Episode: “Some Make It, Some Don’t”

We are back from winter hiatus and we saw truth that Louie’s father is in the picture. The family service company insists there was not a breach and will move forward to find paperwork on him. At Med, Clarke informs Severide that he is a bone marrow match for Anna. It will take a lot of time and risk for the procedure, but Severide is happy to help Anna continue fighting to stay alive. Truck and Squad are called to a scene where a young man has his arm caught in a wood pallet. He tried to remove a beer keg from the bottom of a large pallet, which caused the pallet to lean on his arm. The team works quickly but Severide injures his shoulder to push a young man out of a falling keg! Back at the firehouse, Maggie drops by to draw Severide’s blood as backup for Anna.

He mentions his shoulder pain, but Maggie says he cannot take any meds until after he completes the transplant. Gabby and Matt are still settling into their new married lives and couldn’t be happier. Tina, the childcare service lead comes by the firehouse with bad news. The man claiming to be Louie’s father, Andre Keys, tested positive on the paternity test. Gabby and Matt enlist an adoption lawyer to help their case. Although their adoption papers have not been considered, they intend to fight to keep Louie permanently.

Severide drops by Med to meet Anna officially. The two hit it off and make plans for when Anna is released from treatment. Afterwards, Severide finishes paperwork and names Stella as his emergency contact for the procedure. Gabby is caught off guard when Andre shows up at the firehouse demanding answers. He insists Louie is not a game and he wants to take custody. Brett reveals to Dawson that she is a child of adoption and wanted to know her birth parents. Taking her advice, Gabby contacts Andre and they agree to meet at a diner to discuss what’s best for Louie. At the meeting, Andre says he had no knowledge of Louie. He was overseas for the better part of three years; Louie’s mom does not want him, she is still in rehab. Gabby at least agrees to have Louie meet Andre, and then the lawyers will get involved.

Across town, Clarke calls Severide and tells him the procedure is cancelled. The chemo was too much for Anna, and the antibiotics had a bad effect. She has a slim chance of gathering strength back to even receive the bone marrow transplant. Severide is devastated about the news and stays as a bar all night. He misses his shift and has Stella worried about what’s happening. While Gabby is waiting for Andre to show up to their meeting with Louie; Casey shows up. Tina wanted the group kept small to help Louie ease into the situation, but Casey is Louie’s father and he wanted to support. Andre is over an hour late so the group decides to go home.
At the end of the episode, Truck 81 is called to a vehicle accident and they show up on scene as usual. A mini van was struck, but Otis notices a blue mustang and realizes it belongs to Severide!

Severide isn’t in the car and no witnesses can tell what happened. A woman is injured in the front seat, and her young daughter is non responsive in the back seat. Stella is extremely worried because Severide hasn’t returned any of her phone calls. Herrmann tells the patrol officers to put a call into the intelligence unit rather than the regular stations. So, Sergeant Voight and Lindsay stop by Severide’s apartment to confront him about the previous night. Severide has a gash on his head and is seemingly unaware of what’s happening.
