Name of the Episode: The Assassination of Abraham Lincoln

The critics hail Timeless as a hit everyone needs to watch. I am inclined to agree thus far. The series begins with the shooting at Ford’s Theatre, as we know it. John Wilkes Booth shoots President Lincoln in the head and stabs General Lee before being thrown over the balcony. In the present, the time traveling group is called back to the headquarters. They have knowledge that Flynn has gone back to April 1865. Rufus knows about Writtenhouse, but his boss demands he not say anything to Lucy or Wyatt. Once they are in the year 1865, fireworks are exploding for the celebration of the Civil War ending. However, they are not sure what Flynn’s end game would be.

Flynn’s plan may be to help the conspirators succeed in killing all four men of power as they originally hoped. Lucy gains a connection with Robert Todd Lincoln after a few chance encounters. However Flynn keeps insisting to Lucy that she will help him save history, not destroy it. The group has many disagreements about who is supposed to live and who should be deemed to die. Lucy idolizes Lincoln, but she knows it is his destiny to be shot at the theatre. Wyatt and Rufus are able to save the secretary of state and vice president despite the obstacles they faced.

Booth did not like the new guns Flynn provided for everyone. He insists on using his gun and knife as planned. Flynn makes sure he knocks out Booth outside of the theatre so he can use the automatic gun to kill both the president and General Lee. Lucy kept waiting to see Booth, but instead sees Flynn. She tries to yell for help, but Flynn shoots Lincoln in the head. She is able to save Grant, and was able to say goodbye to Robert. Flynn is reported back to the present, and so the group goes back as well.

History changed only mildly, but Lucy is worried about who else might have been erased from their lives. Lucy could not understand why her sister was not in the present anymore. Turns out, the man who she thought was her father, is not. Her mother has been lying her entire life. Lucy comes home to her own engagement party; her fiancé comes up behind her and gives her a kiss. She does not know who he is, but tries to be nice.

On next week’s episode, they go to Las Vegas in 1962. They’ll get to witness the rat pack, but they also may experience the effects of the atomic bomb.
