Name of the Episode: Big Friends, Big Enemies

Ruzek and Lindsay are working overtime at a theatre; it is a quiet night until gunshots ring out. A driver opens fire onto the crowd and plows innocent bystanders with his car. The motive is unclear but the driver seemed to be targeting one of the rappers that just performed. The car is registered to a man who was convicted of a hate crime in the past. He claims the car was stolen and his alibi seems to stick. Unfortunately it seems like a gang war erupting in the city; violence possibly between the north and south of Chicago. A video of the assault was taped and shared to the Internet. More civilians could be in danger as the gangs continue to retaliate.

Since Mouse left the unit, Jenny is the new computer specialist on the team. Although Jenny’s research brought the team closer to a suspect, he’s evaded their attempts. TK, the young rapper shot has come out of his surgery. Unfortunately, he had lost too much blood and passed away shortly after. Atwater is furious at TK’s manager for using a young boy just to make a few dollars. Jenny finds a retaliation hit coming and notifies the team. Lindsay and Halstead are able to stop one shooting. However, Olinsky and Dawson find a Latino gang member setting up another hit.

Turns out a third gang, the Latin Players are a part of the gang war. Luis claims he did not have any part of the theatre shooting; and his alibi checks out. Voight decides to run down a lead of his own. The Latin gang started a war between the two other gangs in the city just to watch the city burn. Voight threatens to knock down every lead in the gang to find out who started the war. Once he gets the information, the team is in position to take down the ringleader. They’re shocked to find out the person behind the social media hits is just a kid. They believed Alex to be a man in his twenties or thirties. In reality, Alex is just a kid in junior high school who’s now been arrested.

Voight is able to speak with the gang leaders to say the war is over. They can’t retaliate, nothing can be done. At the end of the episode, Atwater is driving home and he sees everyone outside, safe and enjoying the fresh air. The intelligence team has done their job and made the city safe for a little while. On next week’s episode, the team has a chance to take down a drug lord who’s been evading an arrest for fifteen years. Will they finally make their arrest or will he escape once again? Stay tuned for more after takes!
