Name of the Episode: “The Song of Gregory William Yates”

Beware – the following contains spoilers!!!

After SVU‘s all new episode, the intelligence team is back together and re-evaluating the case clues. Erin does not want to believe Yates would come back to Chicago; but after car jacking a couple, he shows up at a Chicago apartment. He gains the woman’s trust saying he needs to make a call to fix his car. The end result is a triple homicide with Yates as the prime suspect. The fourth woman dies at the hospital from massive blood loss. Voight does not want Lindsay anywhere near this case, but she is not willing to back down. She feels if Yates wanted her dead, he would have taken care of her in upstate New York. So, Voight reluctantly lets Lindsay keep coming along.

The one girl that was not present at the apartment, Nellie Carr is hunted down at a college parking lot. Yates approaches her and kidnaps her. He also leaves a note for Erin; Too bad you’re at the station Erin, you’re missing all the fun. Sergeant Platt gives a press conference about the manhunt for Yates. A homeless woman was paid by Yates to deliver a package to Lindsay at the station. The package included a severed hand from the homicide at the apartment with another note from Yates. Why don’t you answer the phone when your mother calls?

Lindsay had ignored a call from her mother earlier in the day, but she is unsure how Yates would even know that. Once she opened the package outside of the station, her mother called for a video chat. Except it wasn’t Bunny, it was Yates holding Nellie close to him. He wouldn’t say where he was, so Mouse tried to locate his phone. Yates hung up before the location was certain, but Lindsay saw a photo of her and Nadia in the corner of the video. He was at her apartment; but even more troubling Mouse saw the phone data was 5x the normal usage. Yates has been using her phone as a microphone and camera to find her location and daily activities.

Nellie does not know why she was picked, she doesn’t know him. He asked a lot about her upbringing and home. Everyone needs a home; he keeps sending hidden messages to the department. They made the startling discovery that he kept searching for a Nellie Williams, Penelope. This is his sister; his mother was called into the station and she confesses Yates was given up for adoption in North Carolina when he was a child. His behaviors were terrifying and his parents couldn’t take it anymore. He had something snap in his mind while he was in prison for his most recent stint; he felt the need to find his family, he needed to complete this vision he has been missing since his pregnant fiancé was killed.

The team heads out for their mission, but Voight benches Lindsay because she is not in the right mind set to stay safe. Another problem presents itself when Nellie shows a call coming in from her phone to her mother’s phone. But she does not have her phone and knows it will be Yates. Yates had knocked out and kidnapped his father. When Nellie answers the phone, she acknowledges to Lindsay that is her father being held captive. Intelligence goes to the wrong location, and Yates baits Lindsay to come to the correct location, alone. The location is his childhood home before being given up for adoption. Voight is near, and orders Lindsay to not go in alone. She disobeys and enters the home. She finds Yates and his father on the second floor. But a contraption has been set, Yates is ready to hang his father at a moments notice.

Lindsay puts away her gun and sits down to hear Yates speak. He divulges about his past kills and how these women suffer for his art. He only brought Lindsay so she could witness the execution. He is convinced they have similar lives and wants her to essentially keep a piece of him with her. She will have to write his name in reports, she will have to testify; she will continually sing his song. He approached her and she shot him in the head, killing him instantly. Olivia takes Lindsay out to Molly’s to help her transition from this killing. She wants her to continue with her life plans, don’t let anyone deter you from what you wanted before the life changing event. SVU and PD will be back next week each with their own storylines respectively. But it is nice when the two squads join to solve cases together.

On the next episode of PD: a well-respected college professor is accused of dealing drugs. He claims innocence, but it is a case that will keep viewers guessing until the very end. Thank you for tuning in for this crossover event! Stay tuned next week for more after takes.
