Beware – the follow contains spoilers!!!

Coming off the series premiere, the intensity has only begun. Dr. Choi forgot his badge in his car. As he was in the parking lot, a man carrying a teenage girl runs to the hospital. He finds the girl bleeding, but is unsure what the cause of blood is. Once inside the trauma room, the team finds a detached umbilical cord, but no baby at the scene. The witness shows Dr. Rhodes where he found the girl. They find her baby stuck in a backpack and work frantically to get the baby breathing. Once they get the baby to cry, he is taken into the NICU.

Dr. Reese is dealing with a patient that possibly has dementia. Dr. Charles is able to contact her husband and have her picked up. They have a revelation and take her in for a few tests that might be worth their while. After a few tests, they determined her dementia was misdiagnosed, and she really has hydrocephalus; or spinal fluid build up in her brain. They’re hopeful for recovery once they get the pressure out of her brain. It’s only a temporary solution, but she seemed to be doing well.

Dr. Manning’s mother in law comes by to see Maggie because they’re trying to plan a surprise baby shower. Natalie doesn’t want any kind of party because she is still grieving the loss of her husband and the baby’s father. The teenage girl has only identified herself as Erica. She doesn’t have anyone, and delivered the baby herself. She is only fourteen years old, a child herself that has no help. She only has a sister that might come to her aid. However, when Dr. Choi goes to deliver the placenta, she begins to hemorrhage. Once taken into surgery, a representative from child protective services comes in and states Erica was soliciting herself for sex. Not only that, she could be charged with attempted murder of her child. With the possibility of jail time, Dr. Manning insists she contacted Erica’s sister and she could potentially take custody of Erica and the baby.

Dr. Halstead thought he was dealing with a hypochondriac patient, and runs various tests, but finds nothing wrong. He releases the patient, only to have him return with a cardiac arrest. Will sees he has a wife and children and tries desperately to save him. But when the procedure does not go right, he tries to reevaluate what he’s done. His patient will need extensive care from his wife. Will blames himself and the patient’s wife is furious, but in the moment, Will did all he could.

Meanwhile, Erica’s baby boy suffered a collapsed lung, and Dr. Manning takes an especially close interest on him. Will becomes angry with Natalie because she is making her decisions based on her pregnancy hormones, and what she would do in her patient’s situations. Once Erica’s sister Kara comes into the hospital she doesn’t want to help. She has many good things happening for her and she doesn’t want to be sucked back into her sister’s problems. With her sister unwilling to help, the police have been called; Natalie is upset with Ethan and his decisions against Erica. But he decides to help Erica’s case and tell her the right things to say once the police come in to question her. But once Burgess and Roman come to her room, she has run away with no trace.

At the end of the episode, Dr. Manning decides to attend her baby shower; surrounded by people who love and care for her.

Next Week: Conner is forced to confront his past and has to decide which direction he will go.
