First off, as Amrie tweeted Monday night from the NBC Chicago Day celebration in Chicago, congratulations are in order for Dick Wolf and the cast, they’ve been picked up for a fifth season!

This week, Gabby is still trying to adjust to her life without carrying her baby. She visits the Chaplin seeking advice, and makes the decision to go back to truck 81. However, Chief Riddle continues to cause commotions at house 51. He sees the house as a nuisance and feels Chief Boden runs the crew too softly. He even questions if Gabriela is fit for full active duty, although her doctors have already cleared her.

The house gets a call to the site of a burning church before a wedding could take place. The bride, maid of honor and pastor are trapped inside as the groom goes running into the flames. Squad pries off the bars from the window and frees the wedding party safely.

Severide has finished his management course and is hopeful to get back as Lieutenant of Squad 3. After seeing the destruction of the wedding fire, Dawson and Sylvie wanted to host their wedding at the firehouse. Except with Riddle hounding the crew, Boden dismisses the idea. Chief Riddle orders Dawson to take additional time away, stating that she is not mentally capable to return to her duties. Dawson will not go down without a fight and threatens to go to the commissioner with her concerns.

The bride and her mother from the fire come to the house and give a small gesture to the house. Gabby confides in Boden, Sylvie, and Matt about what Chief Riddle told her. After hearing the news, Boden decides to host the wedding at the firehouse despite of what Riddle said.

Meanwhile, a romance seems to be brewing between Chili and Borelli; despite her comments about never wanting to get married, Jimmy still cannot keep his eyes off her. More trouble comes when Riddle drops by and sees the flowers in the living quarters. He does not allow Severide to become lieutenant again when Severide agrees that the wedding is a good idea. Patterson does not speak up in Severide’s defense and causes more problems between them.

The bride, Becca, lets Sylvie and Chili know her groom, David, took a bad turn, but is looking forward to the ceremony. The firehouse may be going against protocol, but they’re making many people happy in the process. After a call to a schoolyard, the crew makes it back to host the wedding. Patterson offers to play the guitar as Sylvie sings the bride down the aisle; as she does, a news crew shows up on the property unexpectedly.

Everyone goes to Molly’s to celebrate the wedding reception. As the wedding story airs on the news, Patterson is the poster boy for the interview. He tells Boden he did it in the best interest of the house. It becomes clear that Riddle is not going to let up anytime soon. Severide tells Casey he refuses to let Patterson be the lead of the squad. It’s a fight that will only get worse as time goes on.

Next week:
The rivalry hits a new high as Severide and Patterson put lives at risk when they cannot agree on how to handle a safety call.  (This rivalry is reminiscing of the first season when Severide and Casey were at each other’s throat. But I don’t think they’ll be best friends when this is all over.)
