DVD Review: IT’S ALWAYS SUNNY IN PHILADELPHIA Season 8

its-always-sunny-in-philadelphia-the-complete-season-eight-dvd-cover-30IT’S ALWAYS SUNNY S8 has been out on DVD for a few weeks now, and I’ve had some time to go through the set disc by disc (there are only two, but I’ve rewatched everything quite a few times).  Check out the review:

America’s favorite back-stabbing bar owners are at it again in the outrageously over-the-top Season Eight of IT’S ALWAYS SUNNY IN PHILADELPHIA. Join the gang at Paddy’s Pub for more disagreements, divisiveness, debauchery, and depravity as Charlie and Dee find love among Philadelphia’s high society, and Dennis crashes his ex-wife’s wedding.  Frank loses his memory – and his mind – in a hopeless search for lost treature, and insanity ensues when the whole gang winds up in therapy.  Featuring an all-star cast and loaded to the hilt with hilariously inappropriate and unrated content, Season Eight rules the world!

Tell me the details!!

Episodes Included:

  • All 10 episodes of Season 8 (Approx 220 min run time)
  • Aspect ratio: Widescreen 1.78:1
  • Audio: English Dolby Digital 5.1
  • English SDH, French, Spanish

Special Features:

  • Episode Commentary – Rob, Charlie and Glenn provide commentary on “Pop-Pop: The Final Solution,” “The Gang Recycles Their Trash,” and “The Maureen Ponderosa Wedding Masacre.”  Josh Drisko joins them for “The MP Wedding Masacre” and Rob steps out for “Charlie’s Mom Has Cancer.”  Great stuff – some of the funniest people in the business being funny about their funny episodes.  I always enjoy hearing how certain scenes came together or fell apart – definitely worth listening to.
  • Deleted Scenes – sometimes funny stuff doesn’t make it to the final episode.  You’ll find those funny things here.
  • Gag Reel – these guys are all best friends in real life, so they sometimes break in hilarious fashion.  LOVE this gag reel.
  • Special Feature “Lady House: The Lost Premiere” – hilarious
  • Special Feature “Frank Reynolds’ How To Be a Warthog” – Oh Frank….so absurd but also hilarious.
  • Special Feature “Fat Mac: In Memorium” – love this look back at Fat Mac!

Final thoughts: If I’m being honest, I thought Season 8 as a whole had some mediocre episodes, but the ones that were good were amazing.  Take, for example, “The Gang Dines Out” – an incredible episode that finds them all unknowingly at the same restaurant, and by the nature of being who they are, a competition ensues.  The episodes look great on the DVD, and it’s totally worth a purchase! The extras make it worth spending a ltitle extra time on the shows, but I would have liked to have heard from Kaitlin or Danny on the ep commentary!
