Tuesday Quick Take: Raul loves NEW GIRL

Okay, spent some time watching and loving a whole lot of shows!  But I have to say I have fallen for Zooey Deschanel in NEW GIRL!

Not really being familiar with any of Zooey Deschanel’s work, I was hesitant to invest any time in Fox’s NEW GIRL.  I turned it on though and decided, all right, if I can give GLEE a chance, (which I regretted), I will give NEW GIRL the same opportunity.

Three words: Zooey is amazing! Where has this girl been all my life? I know from reading her biographies and other internet sites that she has been in quite a few productions, even in some that I have watched. I just can’t recall ever seeing her before. Well, now that I’ve crawled out of my hole and joined the rest of society, I have to say that Fox’s NEW GIRL is definitely one of the bright new shows that is sure to be a hit.

The story centers around Jessica Day, or Jess for short. A cheated on, down on her luck, Dirty Dancing watching, emotional wreck who moves in with three bachelors after she catches her boyfriend with another woman. It oozes with cheesiness from the seventies and brings in the hilarious laughs from the FRIENDS era. It’s been a very long time since that many actors together have been able to find harmony.

Deschanel is joined in the pilot by the talents of Jake Johnson (who’s bringing back 21 Jumpstreet to the big screen) who plays Nick, Max Greenfield (Veronica Mars, Ugly Betty) as Schmidt and Damon Wayans Jr. (who surprisingly is just as good, if not better than his dad) playing Coach.  The three come together with a beautiful flow that left me laughing throughout the whole show.  In episode 2 and beyond, Coach’s character leaves and Lamorne Morris’ Winston comes back to the apartment after some time spent playing basketball in Latvia.

I think we’re all interested to see how it turns out!  Check out NEW GIRL at 9/8c after the premiere of GLEE and before the premiere of RAISING HOPE.
