Natasha Henstridge previews the DROP DEAD DIVA finale!

I feel like every week, I’m telling you all about how in love with the cast of DROP DEAD DIVA I am, and this week, leading into what should be an amazing two hour season finale, is no different!  After a summer of talking to just about everyone in the cast (all charming and lovely), I had the chance to speak with the charming and lovely Natasha Henstridge again, and this time, we’re talking about her “tactless” role in tonight’s 2 hour event, and what she brings to the table, how it impacts not only the firm, but Kim Kaswell, as well.   We also had a minute to chat about what she’s up to in the next few weeks.

I’m excited that we get to see you on DROP DEAD DIVA this weekend!
Yeah, it should be fun!

Tell me a little bit about you got involved?  Is it something that you reached out for, or did they reach out to you?
They reached out to me, actually.  They reached out to me.  There are several people on the show, as far as the producers go, that were on ELI STONE, so it was a really nice fit.  There are certainly a few similarities between the two shows. They reached out to me, and asked me if I’d be involved, and sort of pitched the character, and the idea, and we went from there!

For people who might not know, tell me a little bit about the character you’re playing and what we can expect from tonight’s season finale episodes!
I am playing, the name of the law firm is Harrison and Parker, and you never sort of find out who Harrison is until this weekend.  And I play Claire Harrison, I come in and stir up a little trouble. I come in and you realize very quickly that Harrison and Parker have had a history.  In more ways than one.  They were partners in more than just the legal sense, or in business [laughs].  They had a relationship, and they were engaged, so therefore stirring up a little bit of trouble with his and Kim’s relationship.  It’s more complicated than that. It’s not just I’m a partner in the firm, and ooh, Kim needs to watch her back.  It’s definitely beyond that.  It’s complicated.  I sort of use the firm to my own advantage and cause trouble in more ways than one.

Is there talk about the character coming back for Season 3?
There has been, yeah.  Josh Berman, who is the creator of the show, has talked to me a good bit about the character coming back and he said that he would love that.  So, I happen to know some of the ideas that he has for me for next season, so you know, we’ll see if it works out.  There’s definitely nothing signed, sealed, and delivered at this point, but we’ve certainly been in talks about it.  He’s a wonderful producer, and great writer, and has some great ideas for next season, so it’s a possibility!

Had you watched the show before coming aboard?
I watched a few episodes.  I’m not a huge TV watcher, I watched a few of them, I caught a couple, and certainly heard about the people from ELI STONE being involved, and was curious to see it, and knew it was doing critically acclaimed and people were really digging it.  Some aunts and uncles, had some of my own family members that had told me they really liked the show, so of course I checked out a few of them, and I concur.  It’s really fun.  It strikes a really great balance of fun and light, yet there’s still a real morality about the show that I really appreciate it as well.  I love the question that you sort of ask yourself, with the whole beauty versus brains versus what’s important in life, and that sort of thing.  I thought it was a really great concept.

How alike is this Claire character to other characters you’ve played, or how different?
I’ve certainly played my share of strong characters, no doubt about it, and as of recently, very intelligent characters, which is such a joy to play.  I mean, certainly, she’s incredibly intelligent, the top of her field.  I’ve played these kind of characters before.  I think she leave a little bit more to be desired, in terms of tact.  I don’t think that’s really her strong point [laughs].  I don’t think she cares.  I think she’s the type of person that will do just about anything to do what she wants, so I’ve not played characters on quite as strong, in that way, but what’s the word.  Well, I guess tactless.  She’s pretty tactless and a bit on the manipulative side, so it’s a lot of fun to play a character like that!

Why do you think people should watch the finale tonight?
I think all of the acting is superb.  I was watching just while it was being made, and there is some fun, obviously, it’s the end of the season, there’s going to be some surprises.  There is one thing in particular that I think everybody in particular will be interested to see.  I mean, everybody, including the cast, was like, Oh my god, what does this mean?  What’s that mean?  I think, without giving too much away, there’s definitely a couple of moments where people will be glad they tuned in.

What else do you have coming up?
I have a couple things in the works, let’s just say.  I’m actually getting ready to do, I’m going to be shooting a small role in a small film called SHOULD HAVE BEEN ROMEO, in the next couple weeks.  Really amazing script.  A friend of mine, that I’ve worked with a million times, named Paul Ben-Victor, and he’s a wonderful actor.  He’s written it, and he’ll be starring in it, and there is a great cast.  I’m going to be playing myself in that.  There’s another TV show that’s actually doing really, really well on ABC right now, but I’ve not quite signed a deal on that; [laughs] I don’t know if I’m really supposed to say right now!

Will you be tuning in?  And what show do you think she’s talking about?  Leave your thoughts in the comments!
DROP DEAD DIVA airs its season 2 finale at 9/8 central on Lifetime tonight!
