Big night of premieres for Comedy Central!

Tune into Comedy Central tonight at 10/9c to check out the premieres IMPORTANT THINGS WITH DEMETRI MARTIN followed byTHE SARAH SILVERMAN PROGRAM.

Check out a review of Demetri’s show, then follow the jump for a sneak peek at Season 3 of SARAH, and my thoughts on the premiere!

IMPORTANT THINGS WITH DEMETRI MARTIN became must-watch for me last season because I find something so utterly charming about Demetri himself, and though his sketches are totally off the wall, I cannot help but be addicted.  Tonight’s premiere is no different!  Dem and co. tackle the importance of “Attention” in tonight’s show, and there are some truly great comedic moments, featuring, of all things, Alan Dale as an evil henchman with the world’s most ANNOYING sidekick (Martin).  The interludes are fantastic, and the Fruit of the Loom Halloween costume is awesome.  I think my favorite skit was about Bruce the Funny Dog, and while that sounds insane, and you’re probably thinking “Really?”, I promise I laughed out loud multiple times.  Check out a sneak peek of Demetri’s premiere right here.  While I appreciate Sarah Silverman, and think she’s one of the funniest people currently working on TV, I have to give the battle of the premieres to Dem and his show.  LOVE IT!

As I said, Sarah is one of the funniest comedienne’s out there, but her show sometimes falls short for me.  Trying too hard, or not trying hard enough, I don’t find myself tuning in weekly because it makes me uncomfortable more often than not.  Tonight’s premiere fell on the less uncomfortable side, so I did enjoy it, but not as much as someone else might.  In tonight’s premiere, they take a small concept (Sarah isn’t responsible enough and Laura is sick of taking care of all of her wants instead of just her needs), and give it the old SARAH SILVERMAN PROGRAM spin.  In this case [spoiler alert], a lack of interest in finding a job, and no money to support her facial waxing addiction, Sarah grows a mustache that rivals the great mustaches in the world.  Laura jumps on that, and convinces Sarah that she was born a hermaphrodite; when she can’t go through the with lie any longer, there’s a great musical interlude about finding your inner penis [yes, I’m serious]. In other news, Brian and Steve are haunted by the ghost of a man they accidentally killed with a remote control, and the results are as you might expect them – lots of worry, lots of scary ghost things.  It’s pretty funny, and definitely worth watching, but I’d say if you have to pick one premiere tonight, stick with Demetri’s!
