What's On? Monday, June 8

These What’s On? posts have been few and far between lately, but there’s a lot to celebrate with the premiere of four new shows and a great new episode of GREEK!  Let’s get right to it, shall we?

At 8 tonight….
greek-ensemble1GREEK (ABC Family) is all new tonight with a Homecoming Float disaster, Cappie and Casey doing their best to avoid one another, and a little secret about Fisher that Ashleigh uncovers!  The episode is called Tailgate Expectations, and the fabulous Tim Matheson directed it!  Stay tuned later this afternoon for an interview from the set that I did with Dilshad Vadsaria (Rebecca Logan!) and don’t forget that next week is GREEK’s Season 2 finale!

Also new at 8:  THE BACHELORETTE, I’M A CELEBRITY…

At 9 tonight….
The CloserTHE CLOSER
(TNT) is back for an all new season, and it’s as good as it ever was, maybe better.  Kyra Sedgwick is fantastic as Brenda Leigh Johnson, and the first case of the season is a doozy.  A family is gunned down inside their home, and the team is on the case, as Guillermo from WEEDS (the patriarch of the dead family) is in automatically suspected in the case that has lots of twists and turns!  Provenza is hilarious in this episode that had me alternately thinking “who would date him” and “is he going senile?”  Interesting tidbit – Kyra Sedgwick gets a star on the Walk of Fame tonight!  Kudos!

Also new at 9:  JON AND KATE PLUS 8 (MINUS EACH OTHER) airs their 100th episode with “special guest” Emeril Lagasse.

At 10 tonight….
WEEDS5_Poster_blogThe Hemptress is back on Showtime tonight with the Season 5 premiere of WEEDS.  I loved the first three episodes of this season, and actually cannot wait to see what happens next.  The season premiere picks up right where we last left Nancy, as she’s handed over the picture of her sonogram to a reluctant Esteban (the mayor of Tijuana).  I think Mary Louise Parker is better than ever so far this season – I don’t necessarily feel sorry for her, because she’s not exactly doing anything to get herself out of her situation, but I’m laughing, so that’s a good thing!  Jennifer Jason Leigh joins the cast for a few episodes next week and she’s spot on, great casting.  I’m looking forward to some Alanis Morissette this season, too!

Raising the barSeason 2 of TNT’s hit law procedural RAISING THE BAR starts tonight, as well.  The big news is that the first episode back deals head on with Mark Paul Gosselaar’s unfortunate head of hair and by the end of the episode, he’s almost back to the Zack Morris we love!  The show seems to be really picking up steam in the first few episodes back, getting us to feel a little bit more for each character, and watching them continue to grow.  We’re also getting some insight into some other minor characters’ lives, and rightfully so – LOVE Gloria Reuben, so it’s nice to see her fighting for the cause in the courtroom!

At 10:30 tonight….
Nurse_jackie_posterI’ve been saying this to anyone who will listen, but I was not a SOPRANOS fan, and I never understood why Edie Falco kept taking all these awards from the women I loved.  I think I understand now, after having seen the first 6 episodes of her new show NURSE JACKIE.  She plays the Nurse Jackie of the title, a women drawn between two worlds – her family at home, and her family at the hospital where she works.  Her best friend is a bitter pill (both literally because she’s addicted to pain meds, and figuratively in that her best friend is a bitch), she loves and hates her job, she is caustic, sarcastic, mean, but caring, and genuine.  Falco’s great, and the show is funny and warm and moving and dark all rolled into one.  One of the best parts of the show so far for me has been a little of The Fatch – Peter Facinelli, only one of my favorite people on the planet. Can’t wait to see beyond Episode 6, to see this show really take off!

What are you watching tonight?
