THE UNUSUALS Harold Perrineau, Part II

HaroldLast week, in time for a new episode of THE UNUSUALS, I posted the first half of a Q&A I had with series star Harold Perrineau (Banks).  Tonight’s episode, called “42,” is one of Harold’s favorites, so I thought it was a good time to post the second half of our really great chat!

Now you mentioned that you hadn’t done a lighter comedic side of things in a while.  Was it a conscious effort to stick to the more dramatic roles, like on OZ, and with Michael on LOST?
I would have to say it was an unconscious effort.  Things that I studied, and things that I know really well, I’ve been doing most of my career is drama, so when those come up, I’m really drawn towards them.  Comedy’s come up a few times, and I’ve been like, I’m not really funny, so I didn’t audition for it much.  The few times I did, I failed miserably.  It’s like, yeah, yeah, I’m not funny.  I’m very serious, I’m a very serious human being!……So when this came up, I was actually glad for the break.  Because when you’re doing drama, I don’t know if a lot of people realize it, you’re walking around with that stuff, day in and day out.  For 2 years, walking around with this idea that my child is in a life or death situation, made for not a fun Harold to be around [laughs].

I can only imagine! [laughs]
Yeah, there were a lot of times, where it was like, dude, you’re moody, and it’s like, SHUT UP! [laughs]

See, I think you’re perfectly funny!
Ha ha ha [Harold laughing out loud at me ha!].  Just with you, and that’s the only reason I’m funny!  You’re making me funny [laughs]!

What else do we have to look forward to from you besides THE UNUSUALS?
I’ve got a couple of smaller movies going on, that’ll be at festivals  and stuff like that.  A movie called CASE 219, about a school shooting.  Another thing called THE KILLING JAR that I did with Michael Madsen that’s like a psychological thriller.  Lots of blood and gore and words, actually. [laughs]. So those things are coming out.  And that’s kind of it right now.  I’ve done a couple other things I can’t think of right now!

I have to tell you, I watch ROMEO + JULIET, I want to say, like 2 times a month, just because it’s my go to movie.
Oh is it really?

It is – I look at my stack of DVDs, and I’m like, seen it, seen it, LOVE IT, let’s watch again!
Oh right on! I’m in your go to movie stash!  Right on!  I love it!

I had to say that, get that out there ha!
No that is really cool – you’re the first person that’s ever said that to me!  It might be true for other people, but nobody’s actually said it to me ha!  That’s really cool.

Isn’t he the best?  Now, gather up all of your friends and their friends and their friends’ friends, and make them watch THE UNUSUALS on ABC tonight – I don’t want another show to fall by the wayside because people didn’t watch!!
